W.T. Johnson House

San Diego, CA

Completed 2010

This historic William Templeton Johnson House lacked privacy and usable outdoor spaces. Our approach was to extend the living spaces into the landscape, allowing the owners to move easily from the building into the new outdoor rooms. The spaces include an entry courtyard, pool and sun terrace with an adjacent fire place, lavender courtyard with a water feature, an informal dining area under a vine covered trellis near the BBQ and pizza oven, a kids play area and a vegetable garden. Striking planting combinations create a variety of experiences as you discover the outdoor rooms.
