Rogers Residence

Leucadia, CA

Completed 2016

The Rogers Residence is located in Leucadia, California. The house was built in 1960, in mid-century modern style and is sited in a former greenhouse nursery ground. The house, barn and landscape have recently been renovated for a young family that enjoys outdoor activities.

The landscape design respects the mid-century modern style, uses innovative sustainable design and creates vibrant spaces for outdoor living. Marcie Harris Landscape Architecture reinvented the original courtyard creating a cozy seating space with breeze block walls, furnished with a retro midcentury fireplace and sculptural plants. The exterior structure and use of timeless materials throughout the project, such as concrete, gravel and wood, reinforce the style of the project.

The planting incorporates drought tolerant plants and pollinators to invite beneficial insects. Vegetable planters and fruit trees are for the family to grow their own food. Graywater from showers, laundry and sinks irrigates the landscape. A central lawn is provided for the active family. The garden will grow with the family and will be enjoyed by them for years to come.
